Event Description:

Despite decades of attention and awareness, healthcare disparities continue to persist. Instituting culturally and linguistically appropriate services (CLAS) is one step to provide effective, equitable, understandable and respectful quality care and services. CLAS helps to address diverse cultural health beliefs and practices, preferred languages, health literacy and other communication needs.

Join this series of action-based presentations and working office hours to foster a culture of equity within your organization. Learn how to implement CLAS standards to combat disparities for your patients, residents and community members, and meet accreditation standards and federal regulations such as the new nursing home MDS 3.0 and CMS inpatient hospital reporting requirements.

  • November 16 Session 2: Using Patient-Centered Data to Meet CLAS Standards – Examine data collection, data disaggregation and communicating findings to improve care and services

  • December 7 Session 3: Assessing Communication and Language Assistance Efforts to Meet CLAS Standards – Assess the availability and quality of language-assistance services, standardize processes, workflows and review the availability and quality of translated materials to improve care and services 
  • December 14 Optional Collaborative Working Session*
  • January 11 Session 4: Developing A Plan to Lead and Support the Implementation of CLAS Standards – Develop a CLAS implementation plan with policies that support a diverse, culturally sensitive workforce
  • January 31 Session 5: Tools for Action- Sharing, Implementing & Sustaining your CLAS Plan & Optional Collaborative Working Session* – Share CLAS plans, learn implementation best practices and strategies to sustain CLAS in organizations

*Optional 45-minute collaborative working sessions will be offered between sessions 2-4 to engage, interact and take action with peers and course experts
